Avatar Aang

Aang is the airbending avatar after Roku. All avatars are told of they're power when they turn sixteen. Aang was born at the Southern Air Temple, as a regular air nomad. But all the monks, other than Gyatso, decided to tell Aang that he was the Avatar when he was twelve. They decided it was best that he not be with Monk Gyatso any more, and he was to depart for another air temple. Aang grew so enraged that he ran away on his flying bison, Appa, right into a nasty storm. They were thrown under the water and Aang went into the Avatar State to waterbend an ice shell around him and Appa. There they remained for a hundred years.

When he woke, the world was thrown into chaos. As he and his companions traveled he found more and more problems. Specifically spirits. But he doesn't truly know trouble until his past life, Avatar Roku, speaks to him. He learns that in order to end the war he must learn all three elements before the end of summer, when the comet that the Fire Nation used to start the war in the first place returns. Fire Lord Ozai planned to burn the world to the ground.

Meanwhile Prince Zuko and Admiral Zhao continue to hunt him down. When he and Katara get a Waterbending teacher at the Northern Water Tribes, the Fire Nation launched an attack, and Aang used his new Waterbending abilities to stop them.

When his group has expanded and he has learned many skills, he is told he must kill the Fire Lord. But as a monk, he hates to have to kill anything. As he once said, " Violence is never the answer". So when its time to deliver the final strike... he takes away Ozai's firebending - for good.

Aang was a fun-loving, joke playing, Avatar who proved that when he needed to he could be responsible and save the world.
